A Coln House Tweet

one of our canaries has been sitting on eggs, two of which have hatched, fledged and are now happily flitting round the aviary. We have also have successfully hatched a quail chick in the incubator. It is a real credit to the design of our new aviary that the birds are happy to breed so soon after they had been introduced.
Thanks to the generosity of local business men Nick Gregory and Alan Gardiner who kindly donated materials, and the carpentry skills of Norman Brown, our gardener, Coln House now has a large aviary in the kitchen garden which has proved a fantastic home to 4 yellow canaries , 4 zebra finches and two green canaries. They are joined by two sorts of quail which happily peck around in the undergrowth and provide us with quails eggs. One of our students was so inspired that he purchased two of the birds with his hard earned connect and collect points.
We are looking forward to setting up a camera in the nesting box which will send pictures to a monitor in the outdoor classroom. Something to post on Twitter maybe?
